Our client is a leading service provider to the oil and gas production and processing industry with over 35+ years of track record and over 30 offices around the globe. They support their customers to unlock the potential of their assets by designing and building oil & gas infrastructure, operating, maintaining, managing assets and training personnel. They were looking to pivot from their legacy infrastructure to new, modern, cloud-based integrated platforms and other evolving technologies.

With roughly 4,000 software applications developed over 40 years, Petrofac wanted help bringing its tech infrastructure up to date. Amdaris started by rewriting critical business applications to better meet the needs of the business and to migrate a number of key legacy apps to the cloud in order to improve security, performance and cost-efficiency. Within six months, the phased transformation of these key apps began to deliver significant benefits, and Petrofac selected Amdaris to take over the day-to-day management of their legacy application state.

With over 20 years’ experience of developing and managing complex, cutting edge IT systems, Matt joined Amdaris in Autumn 2019 and has overseen the launch of the company’s new Managed Services division.

Under Matt’s leadership, the Managed Services team has grown to over forty people in its first six months. As part of this growth, Matt led the formation of Amdaris’s first on-site team, which included the opening of a new Amdaris office in Dubai, for recently acquired Managed Services client Petrofac.

THE OUTCOMES

After ten weeks of intense onboarding, the Amdaris team of 40 highly skilled developers had addressed several long-standing problems in the legacy application estate. This laid the foundations for further digital transformation.

Initially, Amdaris focused on transforming legacy systems, such as Petrofac’s Site Material Control System (SMCS), which is used to manage warehouse inventory. The previous version of SMCS, a desktop-only application built-in Visual Basic, could only be accessed inside an office away from the warehouse floor. Workers recorded data on paper, before later entering it into the system. Amdaris rebuilt SMCS as a cloud-based app to work on any device, including tablets and mobiles, using Azure.NET. Workers can now record data immediately as it is collected.
