Synertec Ltd
Accelerating Document Processing Support For Synertec's Prism Platform
Snapshot
Synertec Ltd is a UK medical sector specialist and market leader in document solutions, processing over 80 million documents a year for public sector and commercial organisations, including 150 NHS trusts and multiple local authorities. Their Prism platform accepts work from any host system and format, transforming information into documents and delivering them via mail or digital channels. With growing demand and limited in-house development capacity, Synertec needed additional expertise to maintain and enhance the non-cloud version of Prism while supporting a complex ecosystem of desktop applications. Amdaris provided an agile development team to accelerate bug fixes and feature delivery, helping Synertec keep stakeholders satisfied by closing tasks faster and sustaining reliable document processing for NHS and private healthcare users.
Challenge
Synertec faced a growing backlog of work on their Prism platform without enough developers to cover all required tasks. There was no clear product strategy, no Product Owner to prioritise the backlog, and no Business Analyst to create proper user stories, while five different stakeholders were feeding into a single backlog with no common overview.
At the same time, Synertec needed to keep the existing non-cloud version of Prism fully operational, delivering bug fixes, new features, and stakeholder requests to support high volume document processing for NHS and private medical customers.
Without additional support, development delays risked creating dissatisfaction among key stakeholders and impacting service quality.
Solution
Amdaris integrated with Synertec's in house team to support the existing Prism platform, focusing on accelerating delivery of bug fixes, new features, and stakeholder requests. Working within Synertec's established processes, the team followed an agile approach with two week sprints, using a client managed backlog created after regular stakeholder meetings. The scope covered a complex set of desktop applications built with C++, MFC, win32 API, limited SQL, and multiple third party components such as 3 heights, Amyuni, and Microsoft Office components. These applications communicate via Windows messages and function as a microservice like ecosystem, automatically redirecting mailing, texting, and printing tasks to Synertec for execution. Releases were handled by Synertec, with Amdaris focused on delivering high quality changes that helped keep stakeholders satisfied by ensuring work was completed quickly.
Results
By augmenting Synertec's development capacity, Amdaris enabled faster closure of tasks on the Prism platform, helping to keep multiple stakeholders satisfied. The additional support reduced the risk of development delays that could have led to unhappy stakeholders and disruption to document processing services. Synertec maintained reliable support for high volume document processing across NHS and private medical customers while continuing to operate the existing non-cloud solution.
- Faster closure of tasks on the Prism platform
- Reduced risk of development delays for key stakeholders
- Reliable support sustained for high volume document processing
- Continued operation of the existing non-cloud solution
- Improved stakeholder satisfaction across NHS and private medical customers
Technical highlights
The project centred on supporting Synertec's existing Prism architecture, a complex suite of desktop applications that communicate via Windows messages and behave similarly to microservices. Amdaris worked in two week agile sprints, aligning with a client managed backlog informed by regular stakeholder meetings. Implementation and release management remained with Synertec, while Amdaris focused on delivering incremental improvements and fixes within the established deployment process.
- Desktop applications built with C++, MFC, and win32 API
- Limited SQL integration within the Prism ecosystem
- Third party components including 3 heights, Amyuni, and Microsoft Office components

Why us?
We were selected after being recommended to Synertec by another company, with Synertec already working with Insight. Our role was to provide the additional development capacity Synertec needed to maintain and enhance their Prism platform while they continued to own product direction and release management. By integrating into their agile processes and working effectively with multiple stakeholders, we helped them keep work flowing and stakeholders satisfied. Our ability to support complex legacy desktop architectures and work within existing structures made us a strong fit for a high volume, healthcare focused document processing environment.
